NUP Woman MP Candidate Sarah Kiconco Defects to NRM, Withdraws from Rwampara Race

Sarah Kiconco, who had been flying the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag in the race for Woman Member of Parliament for Rwampara District, has crossed over to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), dealing a blow to the opposition’s campaign in the area.

Kiconco announced her decision on Tuesday, confirming that she has withdrawn from the contest and will instead support the NRM flagbearer, Hon. Annah Kansiime, ahead of the upcoming elections.

Her defection was warmly received by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, who welcomed her to the NRM and described the move as a vote of confidence in the party’s leadership and vision.

Tayebwa said Kiconco’s decision reflects the need for unity and cooperation as the country heads into a critical electoral period.

The development is expected to reshape the political landscape in Rwampara District, where campaigns for the Woman MP seat are steadily gaining momentum.
