Leaders in Rakai District have praised President Yoweri Museveni for his strong role in fighting HIV/AIDS, saying his leadership saved lives in a region once badly hit by the disease.
Speaking at a rally at Kibale Grounds on Thursday, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among said Rakai holds a special place in Uganda’s HIV story and thanked Museveni for guiding the country from fear to hope.
She noted that government support for prevention, treatment and awareness has greatly reduced HIV-related deaths. Among also applauded the President for improving roads like Masaka–Mutukula, which has eased access to health services and boosted trade.
Rakai NRM Chairperson Gyaviira Ssemwanga said Museveni’s decision to openly talk about HIV/AIDS changed attitudes and saved many families.
President Museveni said the fight against HIV needs honesty, discipline and continuous public education. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to better health services, especially in high-risk fishing communities around Rakai.
The rally attracted several NRM leaders as Museveni continues his Greater Masaka campaign tour ahead of the 2026 elections.
