Singer Nina Roz Dragged Out of Public Event, Cries Foul Over Political Violence in Sembabule

Ugandan singer and National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for Sembabule Woman MP seat, Nina Roz Kankunda alias Nina Roz has sparked outrage after releasing a video showing her being forcefully dragged out of a peaceful public event in Sembabule District by men led by Kauganda, an alleged relative of NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In the 22-second clip shared on her official X account, Nina Roz dressed in a traditional outfit and red NUP beret is seen seated under a tent before several men approach, grab her arms, and pull her away from the venue as onlookers watch.

“This is how Kabuganda, a relative of Museveni, treated me today  dragged out of a peaceful campaign like a criminal,” Nina Roz wrote. “I came in peace with only my voice and message. Is this the democracy we’re promised? Uganda deserves better.” She added.

The incident reportedly occurred at a community gathering in NRM-leaning Sembabule, where Nina Roz says she had been invited to campaign. Earlier the same day, she claimed the same individual had assaulted a local LC3 chairman, raising further alarm over escalating violence in the area.

The video has since gone viral, attracting thousands of views and reactions. Opposition supporters have praised her courage and condemned the attack, while some ruling party supporters argue she provoked the incident by appearing at an NRM-dominated event. NUP leader Bobi Wine also posted a brief message of solidarity.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by police or the ruling party regarding the confrontation.

With the 2026 elections approaching, the incident has reignited debate over political tolerance, opposition safety, and democratic space in Uganda
