“Surrender in 48 Hours or Be Hunted: Muhoozi Issues Explosive Warning to Bobi Wine After Siege Escape

Chief of Defence Forces and first son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to opposition leader and presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine to surrender to police or face being hunted as a rebel.

In a post shared on his X account on January 19, 2026, Muhoozi accused Bobi Wine of evading security forces and warned of a manhunt if he fails to report to authorities within the deadline.

“As for Kabobi, the permanent loser, I’m giving him exactly 48 hours to surrender himself to the Police. If he doesn’t, we will treat him as an outlaw/rebel and handle him accordingly.” – Gen. Muhoozi

The statement comes just two days after reports emerged that Bobi Wine narrowly escaped a military siege at his residence, where heavily armed forces had reportedly surrounded his home following the disputed presidential election.

Following last week’s tightly contested presidential vote, security forces were deployed across Kampala and other key cities, with authorities saying the move was necessary to prevent unrest. The heavy military presence has since sparked widespread concern among citizens and rights groups.

Sources indicate that Bobi Wine’s residence was placed under military watch, triggering days of tension before reports surfaced that he had managed to slip away, fueling speculation about his whereabouts.

In his fiery statement, the army chief vowed that security agencies would not tolerate what he termed “acts of rebellion,” insisting that Kyagulanyi must present himself to police or be treated as a fugitive.

The declaration has intensified political anxiety nationwide, with many Ugandans anxiously watching how the standoff unfolds in the coming hours.

As the 48-hour clock ticks, the country remains on edge, with supporters of the opposition leader calling for calm while demanding clarity on his safety and location.

All eyes are now on the next move  whether Bobi Wine will surrender, or whether Uganda is heading toward another dramatic political showdown.
