UEDCL Restores Power in Mpigi After Nsibambi Disconnection Saga

Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has reportedly restored electricity in Buyaaya–Kitojjo village, Mpigi District, days after power was allegedly disconnected on the orders of outgoing Mawokota South MP Yusuf Nsibambi (FDC).

The incident sparked public outrage after Nsibambi reportedly directed that electricity be cut off in part of his constituency following his heavy defeat in the recent presidential and parliamentary elections.

The MP claimed the power line had been extended using his personal funds, insisting residents failed to appreciate his contribution and instead voted against him.

In a recent interview, Nsibambi defended his actions, saying voters must learn to value what leaders do for them rather than “turning against them at the ballot.”

His remarks further fueled criticism, with many accusing him of abusing power and punishing voters for exercising their democratic rights.

The controversy deepened when the outspoken legislator reportedly warned residents to stop criticizing him, issuing a shocking threat to burn the electricity transformer also claiming it was bought with his own money if attacks against him continued.

UEDCL’s decision to restore power has brought relief to affected residents, even as the incident continues to draw sharp debate over leadership, accountability, and the misuse of public utilities in Uganda’s heated political climate.
