A wave of controversy has hit Masaka after a journalist and two TikTok personalities were remanded to prison over explosive social media claims targeting Masaka City Woman MP-elect Justine Nameere.
Frank Bwekumbule, a journalist with Impact FM, together with TikTokers Frank Kaggwa and Joseph Kikaawa Buguda, were on Monday remanded to Masaka Central Prison by Grade One Magistrate Abdullah Kayiza as investigations into the case intensify.
The trio is accused of spreading false and damaging information online, alleging that Nameere fraudulently acquired coffee seedlings from farmers without payment—claims authorities have dismissed as baseless and misleading.
Nameere, a National Resistance Movement (NRM) politician, lawyer, and television host, recently won the Masaka City Woman MP seat following a highly contested and dramatic electoral process.

Her victory followed a tense 2026 election recount that overturned earlier results in favor of National Unity Platform’s Rose Nalubowa, further fueling political tensions in the region.
The case has since sparked widespread debate, highlighting growing concerns over misinformation, political rivalry, and the powerful role of social media in shaping Uganda’s electoral narrative.
The accused remain behind bars as legal proceedings continue.
